I so wanted to love this book - great plot, 3 strong characters, a familiar setting. All good points. But the plot was just too all over, the characters were one dimensional and the amount of secondary characters was distracting and the sex was awkward. The setting was the only element I connected with in this silliness. A book on the climb in power of women in the film industry just fell flat.

Hard to follow but interesting enough to keep going. Will make a better show than book.

Thank you St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for the DRC of Climbing in Heels. All opinions in this review are my own.

I thought I was going to love Climbing in Heels so I'm disappointed I didn't. It felt too long and the stories of the three women didn't feel connected enough. It didn't need to start when the women were young and because it spanned so much time, I feel like the characters lacked depth. I also felt like I was reading three different stories. Although they are set in the same time and place, the three women only interacted on occasion so I felt like I was trying to read three different books at once. Overall, Climbing in Heels tried to cover too much and it lost depth because of it.

🎧 Narrator: Stephanie Németh-Parker 🎧

A debut novel about women reclaiming their power and autonomy and shattering glass ceilings? Sign me up! This novel follows Beanie, Ella, and Mercedes as they navigate and work their way up to power roles in Hollywoods hottest agency in the 80’s.

I love stories that center around female power and empowerment so reading this was a no brainer for me. Unfortunately it just didn’t hit the mark for me. There were a lot of side characters, some more relevant than others, but it made following the storylines difficult for me. I also simply just lost interest at a certain point.

I did really enjoy following our three FMC’s as they took the Hollywood ad-agency world by storm. Seeing their storylines converge was also fun.

🎧 Stephanie Németh-Parker did a great job narrating this one. Despite having the physical ARC, I read this one solely with my ears. The audio did need another round of editing though as there were a couple of flaws I caught, but it was nothing major that took away from the enjoyment of this format!
