The thing I loved the most about this text was how much information Krakauer gave us about the history of mount Everest and the commercial climbing industry. I felt like I came away with a comprehensive understanding of all the problems related to climbing mount Everest were and still are today, beyond what just happened in 1996. But the most important thing I learned from this text was , don't climb mount Everest!

JK’s a bit of a guy’s guy, hey? really wanted to fixate on his obvious disdain of Sandy Pittman (her son being bullied at his “exclusive private school” - were those adjectives necessary?) even though there were apparently lots of wealthy people on Everest (LOL it costs 65,000 1996 dollars!?!) and also he knows *checks notes* literally nothing about Yasuko Namba, his only female teammate? you couldn’t have done some RESEARCH about her for this RESEARCH BOOK?!

tl;dr: this book is unputdownable but also JK doesn’t think women are as interesting as men.

Very well told story about the tragic summit attempt of Everest in 1996 from someone who was there on the mountain and made it out alive.
