I read the first book in the series and wasn’t nuts about it, but I have trouble stopping at the first book in a series regardless if I like it or not. The audiobook reading (or maybe mixing) bothered me because the narration was sultry and soft and the dialogue was loud and vibrant which made me turn the volume up and down a lot.
There were some parts about this novel (and its predecessor) that were not very realistic, like the portrayal of instagram influencers. I didn’t like the part that was an accidental triple send of a photo. It just isn’t that big of a deal to be that kind of catalyst.
This series uses a lot of nothing conflict and it’s super frustrating. I wouldn’t say it’s a bad book, but it wasn’t super enthralling and I definitely wouldn’t read it again and won’t really remember it. But it was okay 🤷♀️ 1.75/5
Okay, I liked this book more than the first book. But ugh it still got on my nerves. Like why are you going after your ex’s so much? And then the lack of communication in the last 30% of the book was just annoying. Like him not responding to a text because he thought it was accidentally sent and her spiraling was just frustrating. Just talk like adults man
3.5
I was charmed by both leads. I loved the take on women being “crazy” and the “cool girl.” Their friendship and banter was delightful. The pacing and conflict near the end felt a little forced. My biggest issue is that I love Amy Lea’s plus size rep and feminist takes on romance and rom coms so it was particularly disappointing that there a couple of weird diet culturey/body shamey/ableist moments when describing the MMC’s physical attributes.
