Very interesting and engaging; I appreciated the author's note regarding historical accuracy at the end. This would be a great book to read right before The Constant Princess (by Philippa Gregory), as the ending is pretty much the first scene of The Constant Princess!

I really didn't like this book because the author seemed to want to make Isabella somewhat of a pushover.

Maybe I just wasn't in the mood for this but it was just moving to slow for me so I didn't finish it. I think the story is interesting so others might like it but I gave up.

A truly engrossing read. I was enraptured by Gortner’s details that made Isabella and Castille come to life. This is the first HF I’ve read focused in this region and I learned a lot.

I highly recommend this book. It provided great insight into the bloodshed that created Spain as well as the cultural divisions that tormented the land.

I wouldn’t have complained if he had written another 100 pages delving into the inquisition itself. As a fan of the Tudor era and Henry the VIII’s story it was great to learn more about Catherine of Aragon’s mother as well.

Be sure to check this out especially if you’re a fan of Gortner’s works

Quite an in depth view of the early life and ascension of Isabel of Castile. A fascinating portrait of a controversial and contradictory woman.
