American adoption of Chinese girl, Chinese culture, tea culture and Chinese insulated groups learning about modern times and accepting modern amenities. So many bits that come into this beautiful and deep and informative book.

This was a good story. I liked the dual timelines and narratives. As an adoptee, I didn’t really enjoy that the girl in the story seemed to other herself from her adoptive parents even until the end of the book. The end felt rushed. I wish there was a bit more to the story
