I wanted to read this book because of the Netflix show that has hit this Easter and now that Netflix has announced that it's been renewed for two more seasons, I want to get ahead and know what is going to happen so of course I brought all of Alice Oseman books. I absolutely loved the few volumes in this series and was dying to know what was going to happen after the Paris trip. Please also check the trigger warnings for this volume the content is discussing self-harm, eating disorders, OCD, homophobia and bullying.

This graphic novel still follows Nick and Charlie. Charlie didn’t think that Nick could ever like him back, but now they’re officially boyfriends and Charlie’s beginning to feel ready to say those three little words: I love you. Nick’s been feeling the same but he’s got a lot on his mind – not least coming out to his dad and the fact that Charlie might have an eating disorder. As summer turns to autumn and a new school year begins, Charlie and Nick are about to learn a lot about what love means. This is a young adult romance queer graphic novel. 

I know why everyone is so obsessed with this universe, with these characters and with Alice. This book makes you feel all warm and fussy inside and makes you root for the characters. Like I would kill for all these characters (expect maybe David). The way that Alice manages to write about Charlie’s mental health and his OCD, it was heart-warming and it hurt my heart all at the same time. It was brilliant. This book shows the struggles with overthinking, high school, social groups, parties, families being families and everything in between. You can relate to any of these characters even as you get older. I personally sort of relate to Nick a lot even at twenty-two years old, but I also know what it’s like to overthink a lot like Charlie. This book was such an easy read, I read it in like twenty minutes and then re-read it just to see all the graphics again. I love seeing more of Tori especially with the scene with David and her losing her shit at him. The shower scene made me cry with laughter. I want everyone to read this book as it shows good aspect that everyone’s got something to going on and just to be kind. I loved the mini comics of the teachers being in love, it just gave me heart-eyes <3. I would recommend reading the first three volumes before reading this volume. 

I can’t wait to read Volume Five and see what is in store for Nick and Charlie and the Paris gang! <3

I've yet to see a book properly handle the subject of (possible trigger)

eating disorders and mental illness among young men

with the level of tact and care that's required when discussing the topic. All this in Oseman's lovely drawing style and incredibly real characterization. Cannot recommend this book enough to those who are prepared to read it!

This is probably the fastest I have read a book. I utterly loved it, and it’s my favorite Heartstopper volume so far. Can’t wait until next year with the final Volume 5. The ways that Oseman wasn’t afraid to address deep, personal issues is fantastic. I appreciated how she incorporated multiple diagnoses into Charlie’s experience with mental health. You don’t read about many positive stories from mental health hospital stays, and I’m glad Oseman was able to deliver one. I also appreciate how she has shown multiple reactions to coming outs - the drastic reactions in fiction are frequently not any of our experiences. All props to Oseman, they definitely hit this one on the nail and was a perfect blend of emotion and hard times, and happiness and silver linings.
