As I was reading this book, it brought up memories of this fateful day. I was transported back in time and could remember where I was and the emotions I felt watching the Twin Towers burning and crumbling on the television. Therefore you could say that I did get emotional while reading this book.
However, I thought this was a well written book for the younger readers. They may not remember this event but they will connect with Brandon and Reshmina.
Although, I have to say that I connected with Brandon a bit more myself. Not that Reshmina's story was not significant as well with the invasion of Taliban. I just was more connected with the Twin Towers as I just remember it a bit more stronger. I know that events like these are important to remember as they are part of our history. Therefore, I am happy to share this book with my nephews.

I really liked the portion of the book that followed Brandon and his experience in the North Tower on 9/11. It hit all the historical points and really brought one into the experience of that day.
The book also follows an Afghan girl in 2019. I really didn’t like this portion of the book. It was rife with an agenda that I found inappropriate in connection with the story of 9/11.

Uffda! Alan Gratz does it again. This impactful story weaves current events and history together through the perspectives of two young people. It's an action-packed, emotional, thought-provoking story with great historical information at the end.
Two separate stories with Brandon in NYC on September 11, 2001 and Reshmina in Afghanistan on September 11, 2019. I loved seeing a YA book about 9/11, because so many of these teenagers either weren't born or just wee babes when this big event happened. I also enjoyed reading about how the War on Terror has affected the Afghans, even decades later.
Alan Gratz is an AMAZING AUTHOR! One of the very best.

I think lots of kids will like reading this book and learning the history of 9/11 and the war in Afghanistan. But I figured out the twist early on and it was a groaner. Life is never that tidy or convenient! I think that’s what made this feel like a book. Maybe that doesn’t make sense... the good books I read feel like real life, but this felt fabricated. There’s a lot of trauma in this book, so sensitive kids should probably steer clear.

At first the pace of the book was quite slow in my opinion, but I loved the ending and twist… (even though for some people it might have been obvious, not for me lol)
