Twenty years out from the horrible attacks on 9/11, many people have forgotten the horrors of that day. We have forgotten how we came together as a nation that day, and the weeks and months afterwards. This book will help this generation remember why we began the fight on terror in the first place. It also helps us to remember that people outside the USA don't have the same ideas, ideals, and beliefs as us.

Brandon is in the World Trade Center on 9/11. This story goes back and forth with his trying to get out of the World Trade Center and the future where he is a soldier. The book includes sever pages of diagrams and information from 9/11.

Alan Gratz’s use of multiple perspectives is one of the things I love about his books. Please read this!

This is a kid's chapter book that I read alongside my middle schooler. He finished it long before me because it was probably one of the hardest books I have ever read from an emotional standpoint. I had to put it down several times during reading and come back to it a day or two later.

That said, it is a great book for teaching children about what it was like to be in the Twin Towers on 9/11 and what NYC was like that day. The second story line in the book is set in Afghanistan around 2019. This also offered a great glimpse into how America's longest war became so complicated and disorienting. The book sparked many great discussions in our home and I highly recommend it, but just know it is heavy.

Wow! This one was powerful and very well done. I loved the two perspectives. Gratz made this tragic event come to life in a way that I haven't experienced before when reading about this topic.

Stunning. I cried for both main characters and how aptly their views were described. I love how they tied together. Wonderfully written.
