Innocent book where Elvis navigates life after her mom dies. Funny and sad at times. Strong characters.

Such a weird one-very grief centric but with so much humor. Harnett nails that combo in both of her published books. I loved our main character Elvis and her neurodivergent mind (though it is never explicitly stated as such). If you love weird books with humor and adult books written from the POV of a kid (preteen in this one), pick this one up ASAP. I cannot wait for Harnett to publish another book. Another instant best of the year and it's only January.  (Please check triggers because there are a lot of explicit mental health depictions in this one among other things.)

What a unique book, focused on the POV of a 9 year old grieving and living the year after her mother’s tragic death. The author masterfully weaves dark humor into the grief. This book confronts tough subjects of death, hospitalization, feelings of abandonment, mental health, and more, but somehow keeps a hopeful, lighthearted feel throughout.
