I need time to process this.
This is a short story that packs a punch. It's a story of an adventure through unknown waters and unknown lands into the mystery of the heart of men.

Pretty good book - much more interesting than I expected. Some nice deep themes and stuff going on. But dood - way too short. I was just really gettin' going when it like, ended.
My review is for this edited & guided version by Karen Swallow Prior: a fantastic edition for Christian readers and teachers to have and read from. It’s not that Heart of Darkness is a favorite story of mine. Obviously it’s very heavy; and even though it addresses the darkness of colonialism, it still struggles with being racist and sexist. HOWEVER, as you would glean from the wonderful introduction by KSP, my read-through of this cemented its place for me in the cannon of Important Books that need to be read and understood well. I just got done teaching this for my Brit Lit class; so yes I have gained much more from this than I did reading it as a high schooler (what’s this weird, dark book even talking about??) or as a college English major (I mean, yeah, it’s like super existential, but [yawn] definitely tryna stay awake.) If you’re one of those readers who didn’t enjoy it the first time, but you want to understand its importance, then do yourself a favor: read it again, and try it with this edition.
Mind numbing drivel. I listened to this apology for literature via Audible and would recommend that anyone prone to depression or even slight feelings of melancholy should think very carefully before subjecting themselves to this pseudo intellectual garbage.
