This book is a slog; there are some bright points -- the inversion of the chosen one trope for one -- but the book merely hints at interesting developments and spends the rest of the time in the weeds

Personally, the ending fell a bit flat for me. It felt very rushed and just overall lacking the drive that the rest of the book had. Misery as a character was really interesting and so was Lady Lightning, although it did feel that at times the main character was not Misery but Lightning.

This book has many elements I loved, yet somehow didn't manage to engage me enough. I felt like Misery should have been a stronger - committed, almost on the verge of unlikeable - personality ( I understand the character arc BUT). AND That the book could have benefited from a healthy dose of Unconquerable Sun-esque commitment to a societies moral values. Was still fun tho.

DID NOT FINISH: 73%

Should have dnf'd this way sooner, but was honestly enjoying it until around the page 200 mark. It went completely downhill for me at the halfway point, but I tried to push through and only made it another 100 pages before giving up. I now regret entirely that I spent six days of my life trying to read this. What a let down.
