This book is very emotional. It does a good job of showing Jude's want to be Syrian and American. But does not downplay either.

This was a joy to read. I finished it in a single evening. To the person reading this review, read this book.

I was immediately drawn to this book's cover, and the quote, "This is a necessary story," solidified my purchase. I experienced many tears, a bit of laughter, and the warmth of home in many forms through inspiring, thought-provoking verse.

The story tackles heavy subjects (Islamophobia, xenophobia, war). Through Jude's eyes, these subjects are handled gracefully and treated with care.

This was such a sweet book. I loved that the author chose to highlight this book as from someone who is proud of her heritage but coming to terms with the multifaceted life of being an immigrant. I loved how powerful the family love was and how despite having a whole host of problematic twiddles, they all had a learning curve and grew over the course of the book. I appreciated how the grief of leaving one's family and home affected the main character.

Such a well done book!
