“You are the flame that cannot be put out. You are the star that cannot be lost. You are who you always have been, and that is enough and more than enough. Anyone who looks at you and sees darkness is blind.”

Wow, this book was actually so good. It had all of my favorite characters, and introduced new characters that have become some of my favorites.
Dad Will, Uncle Jem, James Herondale, Magnus and Alec adopting a child??? The parabatai talks and references?? George Lovelace, RIP.
Simon is one of my favorite characters and seeing him have his time to shine here was so much fun to read. I loved that even though this was a short story collection, it was blended in with the present day, which made it feel like a continuation of The Mortal Instruments. I was invested in some stories more than others, so that's why it's not a perfect 5 star rating but it was so good nonetheless. Simon's journey throughout this book was one of my favorite things about it,
even though the ending was so sad and bittersweet, ughhh George would have been his brother, and he left his mundane life behind aghhh.
Anyways, I can't wait to continue the series!!

Finishing this book feels so bittersweet. It feels like I'm finishing the journey I started all those years ago when I was 17 and obsessed with this little Netflix show. It's been 8 years of rereading and putting off, but it feels like I'm saying goodbye to Simon and the core group that I fell in love with when I was so young. I know the Shadowhunter world goes on, but it's different. My heart yearns for Sizzy and those friendships.

At least I'll still have Malec <3

Please just give me a minute while I hold back my tears.

It was surprisingly great. I'd expected it to be worth a star less than any Mortal Instruments book, seeing as it's a companion novel.
But seeing Simon's story, from his perspective was really fun, and I appreciate that the full two years of the Shadowhunter academy weren't stretched out into more than one book.
