A family move into a crumbling English country home, where a tragedy occurred decades earlier. Love this type of story and setting.

I received this book from net galley and shamefully it has take me a long while to get round to reading it. It is a beautifully crafted novel that moves between the mid 20th and early 21st century to follow the history of a house and its inhabitants. There is mystery and more in the storyline. Chase manages the undercurrent of fear in the tale that, in both time lines, follows character with both mystery and threat underpinning their lives.

This was a bit of a slow burner but ended up actually really enjoying it. I love when books have split timelines and you have to uncover the historical mystery and this did just that. Really interesting.

Really enjoyable read. Enjoyed the character development, particularly that of Margot, Aunt Sybil and Bella. A really easy read with a few great twists at the end.
dark sad tense slow-paced

It's one day later and I'm still thinking about this book. I kind of feel like this cat right now. It's definitely a slow burn mystery (my favorite kind) with constant underlying eerie/creepy vibes throughout the story. If you like Kate Morton you'll like this author.

Well....that’s it. From now on Eve Chase is an auto buy for me. I loved her debut novel and this story had me mesmerized from the beginning. This was such an atmospheric novel with beautiful writing. I’m hoping EC comes out with a new novel soon.
