Sisters. Warriors. Sisters.

This was a lyrically written book with a mesmerizing plot and a richly detailed setting. I really enjoyed the various characters and the events unfolded in a very satisfying way that was surprising but not contrived. I am looking forward to reading more by this author!

I love a book that goes back and forth in time and this fit the bill. Add in a mysterious house and family relationships and I'm hooked. The resolution to the big mystery was a bit lackluster, but it was the relationship between the sisters and their future that held my attention. I was intrigued by the modern day story, but I was anxious to get back to the past. A great gothic style book and I will look for other novels from this author.

3.5.
The story was atmospheric and haunting, though I didn’t feel particularly attached to the characters.
But the metaphors: brilliant. The author can make metaphors sing!!

my fondness of the book came from the journey that i experienced from reading the book, not from the ending and the wrap.

i felt like the two stories in one book merged with the common theme of
the two main perspective’s insecurity with their “other half”, with Jessie’s insecurity as a wife and mother, and Margot with Audrey. That’s the only way I can see the intertwinement of the two stories but personally, I enjoyed reading and seeing each of the characters’ venture until the end of the book.

I couldn’t give this book a higher score as the author’s choice of words made me raise my eyebrows a few times.
