oh boy! going into this i certainly expected some gruesome body modification hijinks but i was not prepared for how absolutely horrifying it would be! when you’re reading a book of certain age i expect the author to shy away from graphic details but this book delivers full-on horror pretty much from the first chapter to the last.
my favorite characters were m’ling, straight from his absolutely perfect introduction, and the loyal dog-man. love him.
moments that stand out are the description of the wriggling thing (AAAH!!), the discovery of the puma in the laboratory and the description of the dead moreau. scary!

This was a fast read. It kept me turning the pages, and the action focused on our narrator's experience on the titular island.

The plot and semi-scientific musings were not as engaging to me as The Time Machine or War of the Worlds. I can see why this is a classic, but also why it doesn't get around as much as some of Wells' other works.

Not my favorite HG Wells novel, interesting premise that leans heavily on the ethics of humanity’s relationship with nature. Bit of a bore at times.
