This was super interesting & unique, until the alien squid baby birthed from a breast....named Gregory.

Though if that ending leads to a sequel, I'd probably still read it out of morbid curiosity.

This book had me *hooked* throughout the whole thing, but I did feel a bit let down by the ending. Not the strongest conclusion, but still recommend!

Started strong as an engaging pandemic tale but really lost the the thread halfway through and didn't recover. The POV shifts for the first time at about 50% of the novel and the pacing never recovers, all tension is lost. And I was disappointed in the ending, it felt so limp and unsatisfying. There was some real potential with this setting, and I enjoyed the set-up, but much of the second half felt 'edgy for edgy's sake' and the dialog got weak.

It is graphic and gory and equal parts frighteningly brutal and beautiful. Getting from a proposal to
a hostile alien terraforming take over by a cephalopod race
is magical!

It's not that the writing quality was bad, the story was just intense in a way that isn't to my taste. See content warnings.
