A faithful adaptation of the TNG episode, nothing special or different if you watched the episode
(S6 E4)

SpoilerThis story brings Scotty back into the TNG era.

I don’t remember much about the episode. But I had listened to a couple episodes where Friedman talked about writing the book under a quick deadline. I liked how Friedman found room on the episode to expand the story.

And it’s a fun story. It made me think about aging, surviving—surviving after surviving, what do we do after we cheat death, how do we deal with living beyond usefulness, how do we treat those who we see as living beyond their time...

And this is a good Scotty story too! Plenty of tight drama in sweaty engine rooms.

My only criticism is that I feel Scotty focused a lot on women’s appearances. This may be in Scotty’s character but I wanted someone to call him on it. It seemed that Scotty was a relic of the 1960s. At least someone could ask him to stop calling grown women “lass.”

This is an absolutely excellent novelization of the TNG episode Relics. Even though the author had the original episode to work from, I'm still amazed this was written in only one month. We should all hope our NaNoWriMo efforts could be so good!

The extended scene in the holodeck was pure gold. At the time, it couldn't be done on TV - technology has advanced so much now that they might just be able to pull it off these days - but I would've paid good money to see the scene as written here.

There was plenty of expansion of various elements of the episode in these pages, which is what I crave in a good novelization. It is in fact so well expanded that rewatching the episode now might just be a letdown.

Definitely worth the read if you liked the episode or are a Scotty fan.

This was based on one of my favourite Star Trek: Next Generation episodes, and wow, it was fun getting to reread this story. I highly recommend finding the audio version if possible just because Scotty narrates himself.

A really enjoyable book and gives more depth to Scotty coming back. It allowed him to mourn the passage of time and friends. Really enjoyable read. I’ve always felt Scotty get the short end of the stick in TNG and this helped to rectify it a little bit.

The crew of the USS Enterprise-D receives a distress call and whilst investigating, encounter a Dyson sphere. The distress call originates from an old federation Starship which has crashed on the surface of the Dyson sphere. Upon investigating the ship, the away team discover two lifeforms trapped in the transporter pattern buffers. However, the lifeforms are degrading and need to be rematerialised soon else they will be lost forever. Sadly, one of the lifeforms is beyond recovery, but one can be rematerialised…they are in disbelief when the legendary Captain Montogmery Scott, the famous engineer from the original USS Enterprise steps from the trasnporter pad.

A good story about a person who finds they are outdated in a futuristic world.
