Short, bittersweet and beautiful. House of Stars reminded me of Ghibli movies with hints of European (especially Scottish and German) folklore and it was executed perfectly. This is an example of fairytale retellings done right - retaining hints of childish magic but with a good blend of mature themes.

The story itself is quite short (only 26 episodes) but you can see how much love and research the authors put into in via the quality of the artwork, story and the little notes at the end. I appreciate how they used different tones and colours to symbolise events and they did it in such a way that I felt fully immersed into this believable fantasy world (which is why it gets the sensucht shelf).

The overarching theme was woven very well into the story - it was quite sad to see why all of the events happened in the way they did. All the characters were fleshed out and our main character Lily was prickly and adorable. Peach and the other creatures were cute and such great additions to the story.

I just wish that some of the plotpoints were stretched out a bit more. For instance, it's explained that the Queen required six girls and they're never explained after that. I would also have liked to see how fairyland ended up after her demise.

aesthetically, this webtoon was very, very pleasing. the illustrations were gorgeous and i could not stop admiring them as i read through one episode/chapter to another. the colourpalette used definitely added so much more to not just the backdrops but also the characters and the main drawings.

story-wise though, it didn't too well for me. there were a lot of gaps in information that would later be conveniently filled depending on the requirement and that made the writing seem a little disproportionate. i liked the idea of the main story being inspired from various other fairytales and lily's bravery and sense of justice was definitely admirable, but i often found myself wondering about the consequences of her recklessness that came with it but were once again, conveniently skipped over.

overall, it was an okay story but the idea behind it and the art that brought it to life were brilliant and worth the appreciation.
