  • murder mystery but from the law enforcement perspective of catching a serial killer / courtroom drama
  • you could tell the author was very knowledgeable about the legal system so it was very interesting from that standpoint
  • there were some pretty decent sized plot holes that were frustrating to read

I flew through this book. I was captivated from the first page. I was worried that I didn't know enough about courtrooms/law to follow it, but I didn't need to worry. I loved Yardley's tenacity, and the lengths she would go to protect her daughter. I guessed pretty early on that
Wesley
was the murderer, but I was not disappointed with how it unfolded. The ending with
Tara
was just the cherry on top. I can't wait to read more of this series.

Great, fast-paced story

This is the first novel of Victor Methos, I read. A page turner that keeps you wanting more, through the very last word.

ebbs and flows with the plot. seemed to drag on at some points but would wrap into a strong plot moment.

Fourteen years ago Federal Prosecutor, Jessica Yardley’s husband was arrested for a series of brutal murders. Now it appears there is a copy cat killer replicating his murders. Jessica is quickly recruited by the FBI to assist with the investigation and to hopefully give some valuable insight into the case. Having to come face to face with her ex husband to try and piece together the identity of current killer has Jessica off balance in the life she has painstakingly rebuilt since it was turned up side down all those years ago. As Jessica and the FBI begin to close in on the killer, the game of cat and mouse intensifies.

I loved this book. It was such a great psychological thriller. I loved Jessica as a character, to see where she had come from as the infamous wife of a serial killer to being a strong, confident prosecutor. About halfway through the whole tone of the book changes and goes in a completely different direction than I was anticipating and it was such a good element to be added to the book. Overall it was well paced, entertaining and kept me guessing until the very end. I honestly don’t know where this book has been hiding, as I hadn’t seen it pop up anywhere. The only reason I ended up reading is it because it was picked for me for a buddy read this month. This is the first book in a series and I can’t wait to read the next books in the series. Definitely a book that needs more hype.
