My 6 yr old thought this one was hilarious! Good read. Well told story that wasn't too unbelievable as far as kids books go. We talked like a pirate for several hours after each reading lol.

Shivers is a pirate, but he’s terrified of being one. He lives on a ship that’s on land and avoids eating things that start with the letter C because he gets C-sick. Clouds, strawberries, and bubble baths terrify him. When he gets a letter from his pirate parents, however, he has to work through his fear to go rescue them. With the help of his friend Margo and his first mate Albee the fish, he sets off in search of his missing family and the Treasure Torch. Their adventures bring them to a giant squid, NYC, and the Statue of Liberty, and best of all to the knowledge that you can be scared and learn to overlook it anyway.

This book will make both children and adults giggle. The illustrations are plentiful and fun, and the adventure is silly enough to capture the interest of reluctant readers. It ties into some historical fact, but overall the characters are story are meant to be silly and fun. Sometimes it is a strange mixture of real life and fantasy, making it seem a little disconcerting like it wouldn’t be if it were based solidly in one world. The humor will entertain readers, and the message about facing your fears also adds a good lesson to the silliness. Young readers will love this story about a pirate who is too scared to be a pirate until it matters most.

I really enjoyed this advanced reader copy. Adorable story line of pirates tied into some historical fact and just all around fun. Shivers is a great voice to speak to all kids who are trying to handle their fears. Tough friend Margo is a fantastic and strong female character in this book. A must read for elementary readers. This would be good for a reluctant reader, it has the adventure, humor, and friendship that is so strong and well writen.

This is such a fun, cute, gross, and ultimately engaging book for young students who are just starting to read chapters. I enjoyed the gross out humor and I have had a hard time keeping this book on my shelf in the library. Shivers will have students (2nd and 3rd grade I would think) in stitches reading this book. I think this book would be a lot of fun as a read aloud. As an introduction to a series, the book does a good job of laying out the roles of Margot, Shivers, and Albee. The ending is incredibly strange and out of nowhere but that silly element will have readers chuckling and immediately recommending this book their friends. If you are looking for an odd, funny, gross, and ultimately charming adventure story, this is a good pick for you.

My Quick Review:

Shivers is an 11 year old pirate but he is seriously scared of EVERYTHING. Margo is looking for adventure. When Shivers parents and brother go missing, Margo, Shivers and his goldfish Albee set out to find them.

This is a great book for younger kids but it’s so much fun for adults. This is my first book from Annabeth Bondor-Stone and I am looking forward to reading more. She has a great way of telling a very fun and silly story. I can't explain how adorable this book is and how much I loved the characters. This book was HILARIOUS! the Illustrations were adorable and I found myself laughing out loud more often than not. The idea of a pirate being scared of everything including the ocean is just funny. I LOVE that Shivers gets C-Sick ,that’s anything that starts with the letter C, and he is extremely terrified of Snails. Margo is a tough little girl and is very brave and willing to help and do anything she can to help Shivers. It's a great friendship and a wonderful read. I 100% recommend this to young boys and girls and adults too :)

After the first couple of paragraphs I knew this was going to be a 5 star read for me, the story and the characters totally had me sold and I can't see it being any less than 5 stars.

Thank you so much for stopping by to check out my review

Hope you have a great day and Happy Reading!

Amazingly funny, silly read!!! What an ingenious idea, a pirate - depicted as a brave, stalwart figure - who is afraid of literally everything!!! :)
