I would have never thought an advice book written by two true crime comedy podcasters would be as good as that was. Karen and Georgia had both relevant and well thought out advice about thriving as a women in the world where we have to be scared to walk down the street.

As a longtime “My Favorite Murder” fan, I came to Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark’s book “Stay Sexy and Don’t Get Murdered” expecting a collection of grisly tales laced with humor and heart. What I found instead was something even better: a candid, hilarious, and surprisingly moving exploration of the authors’ lives that reads more like a self-help memoir than a true crime companion — and it’s all the stronger for it.
Kilgariff and Hardstark use the familiar tone that made their podcast a cultural phenomenon — warm, honest, irreverent — but here they turn their lens inward. Each chapter is structured around personal mantras and stories from their own lives, from learning to stand up for yourself, to setting boundaries, to surviving trauma and addiction. It’s less about the murder and more about the survival — about what it takes to keep going and care for yourself in a world that can be scary, chaotic, and unfair.
That shift in focus might surprise podcast listeners, but it’s what makes the book so special. This isn’t just a behind-the-scenes peek at “MFM” — it’s a raw and often funny blueprint for reclaiming your voice. Their vulnerability is refreshing, whether Karen is talking about her struggles with depression and self-esteem, or Georgia shares her experiences with disordered eating and recovery. These are hard subjects, but they’re handled with empathy and humor, always reinforcing the underlying message: you’re not alone.
In a month that celebrates Mental Health Awareness, “Stay Sexy and Don’t Get Murdered” is a perfect — if unexpected — read. It reminds us that sometimes the most radical act of self-care is simply surviving, that setting boundaries is not rude, and that humor can be a lifeline. As the title suggests, it’s about staying strong, staying weird, and yes — staying sexy.
If you love the podcast, you’ll find the same wit and wisdom here. But even if you’ve never listened to a single episode, this book has the power to resonate. It’s like a long conversation with your funniest, most insightful friends — the kind who tell you hard truths and make you laugh so hard you cry.

Loved getting to hear them on the audiobook. If you aren't a fan of the podcast or Karen & Georgia already, I'm not sure this book is for you.

I've been a big fan of Karen anf Georgia for years, and was super surpised to see their book at a local bookshop. Snatched it right up.

I really enjoyed their account of how they came about their love of true crime, therapy, and the world of podcasting. I loved them going deeper into their popular catchphrases.

I particularly loved Georgia's side of things, with some really deep and personal things that I didn't know about.

A lot of things resonated with me. Top things are:

- "bigger dummies than you have done it"
- "you dont need to be motivated. You just need to do it"

Really enjoyed this, super quick read.

I loved learning more about Karen & Georgia‘s personal lives, and listening to the audiobook made this feel like an extended version of the podcast. and while I‘d listen to ANYTHING narrated by Karen & Georgia, I really really liked this. I‘ve learned so much from them & it’s so entertaining at the same time (entertaining doesn’t mean lighthearted though - the second Karen started crying, I did too).
Karen did say readers younger than 20 should go read sth else but obviously I didn’t listen & having finished it now, I genuinely think this is a great book for young people (well not too young maybe)
