This book analyses incels, pick up artists, male separatism, so called “men’s rights activists”, terrorists, extremism, radicalization, social media, and feminist men. The author dove deep into violent online communities, explaining concepts, culture, and the connection of violence against women and radicalization through the manosphere.
I think this book is greatly executed because it doesn’t place the blame on men, and in fact it focuses on the need to invest resources to help these groups, because the change to end misogyny will happen as everyone, every gender, is involved.

Pretty good summary of this whole culture. Theres nothing majorly new if youve heard of any of these groups before but it does a really good job of giving an overview
A not so gentle reminder that a lot of men suck and that they do everything except do the work to better themselves/the world. It’s terrifying how they act especially on internet spaces.
That being said, a lot of this book wasn’t really new information to me. About halfway through the book I started to become disinterested. Laura Bates provides a lot of great info and points, but wasn’t really anything groundbreaking. This would be a good read if you’re not familiar with these online manosphere communities.

I read about a third of the book before I had to stop. It’s deeply depressing and disturbing to learn just how bad the manosphere is. The book is well written and researched, and I’ll return to it someday. I know it’ll be a 5 star read for me…but I simply can’t finish it now.
On a positive, the little I did read inspired me to take a self defense course and start more regular jiujitsu training, as well as other self defense tactics. We must protect ourselves, because the amount of men who think they “deserve” to r*pe and k*ll us is disturbing. Protect yourself, always.
