Shocked to learn it is more sprawling and deeply entrenched than I envisioned and how easily future generations of men are being funneled this messaging. Societally we need extreme misogyny to be labeled what it is - terrorism.

Everyone raising (or with relations to) young boys should read this.

Summary: This is a book about various groups of misogynist men. It's primarily focused on online groups, but it also connects it to real world groups like politicians or mass shooters. The author also discusses her personal experience trying to combat misogyny by speaking at schools or on news outlets and how she sees people treating and reacting to these issues.

Favorite Passage: There's a section where she talks about a woman who wrote an article about one of these groups and her publisher gave it a title making fun of them which led to her getting hate from them. I thought that was interesting because people try to use ridicule to defuse these groups, but it actually has the opposite effect.

Review: This is a really difficult topic but it's very informative. It's split into sections that cover different groups, such as PUAs, MRAs, and MGTOWs. Which it explains very well if you aren't familiar with what these are. I also liked that she discussed how humor is detrimental to discussing these groups. A lot of people in these groups use humor to make it seem like they aren't serious and people against them try to use humor to take away their power, but it ends up making it seem like these issues aren't serious and they don't have real world consequences. The only thing I would have liked her to be less dismissive of is women hating men in certain online spaces, because I think there are some similarities between these groups and may have contributed to each other, but I also sort of get why she didn't because it would have derailed the book a bit.

Important as an Intro to the topic but a little repetitive. If you’ve engaged with conversations around the manosphere before you will probably be quite familiar with a lot of this, but vvvv well sourced

I have done a lot of research into incel culture and this felt very introductory to the concept so I wasn’t really gaining new information
