It's technically good, but I was bored many times. Felt like a chore to finish the book, even though I was interested in everything I read.

Very mixed: original ideas clash with sophomoric writing quality. The characters and world are interesting and the story has a few unexpected elements. But the dialogue is lacking while the descriptions are sometimes grade-school level. Makes the reader curious to read more despite its shortcomings; could be almost improved as a comic book due to its detailed action scenes.

A simple, yet compelling story of rebellion and survival. It follows two individuals seeking a new purpose in life. One was betrayed desiring revenge. The other one was abandoned forced to find her place in the world.
I found the relationship between the two main characters to be a bit lacking. Rather than a genuine connection, it felt more like a professional, boss-and-employee dynamic. I hoped for their bond to grow into something more akin to a father-daughter relationship but it never quite reached that level of emotional depth. It was a missed opportunity to truly pull on the heartstrings of the reader.
The female protagonist has her flaws and can be annoying at times. Her quick declaration of love for a boy she barely knew was difficult to believe and felt underdeveloped. I wish the author had spent more time building their relationship so that readers could genuinely root for them.
The power system (Allomancy) is one of the book's strengths. Although it’s a concept that is not new, it’s grounded and easy to understand. There are eleven distinct metals each granting a unique ability. It’s straightforward even though I'm used to the more diverse power systems found in anime and web novels. Given this is the first book in a trilogy, I'm hope that the next installments will introduce more variety.
Without a doubt, Sazed is the standout character and the MVP of the book.
After reading Lord of Mysteries, my standards for fantasy are quite high. While Mistborn is a decent read, it didn't quite reach that level for me. I'd give it a 3.5 out of 5 stars. I wish to finish the trilogy so that I can move on to the highly-praised Stormlight Archives. Wish me luck.

Have you ever dropped your phone and thought you cracked the screen then you picked it up and it’s fine? That’s how this book felt, for the entire read I found the book a combination of better fantasy novels and in the end I found the book to be fine.
My primary dislike of Brandy Sandy’s writing is his inability to be concise. There are so many superfluous words throughout his novels I’ve read that are redundant. Prime example: he has used “eye blinks” as measure of time on numerous occasions. The definition of the word blink is to shut and open the eyes quickly, there’s also of course a blinking light but I know his readers are smart enough to figure it out within the context. I have other issues with his writing that could be resolved if he had a better editor but I digress.
I have never written a 500 page book so kudos to him but driving home my point, I feel that he didn’t need 500 pages to tell this story.
