Not bad, but the movie is actually better, believe it or not. It's a beautiful illustration of the American frontier.

Some books just aren’t worth it. I’m convinced the only reason why the name of James Cooper hasn’t already sunk to the bottom of the deep, dark sea of time to be forgotten forever is because suckers like me get the idea to read the book before or after watching the successful movie, discover the author’s name, and then learn that it’s actually the second book in a series of four, and get the dumb idea to read them all.

I (regrettably) read the entire first book, and had downloaded this second at the same time, anticipating that I would read the whole series at once. However, the first book is so tragically written (to be clear: it was a terrible book) that I couldn’t stomach opening the second, and it wasn’t until yesterday when my current audio book ended during a road trip and I realized that Last of the Mohicans was the only other book I had already downloaded to my device. As I still had 2 hours ahead of me, I decided to give it a try.

As you can imagine, I took extra pains to find some WiFi so I could download a different book before my return trip, so that I wouldn’t have to suffer through another 2.5 hours of this awful book.

Sorry Jimmy Coop, but 1) you don’t understand women (who you refer to exclusively as “females,” 2) you don’t have anything insightful to say about life, and 3) I’m not even convinced that you understand Native American culture.

TLDR: do yourself a favor and skip this one.

I know I should like a classic book like this, but it was so dry. I didn't find the characters realistic and found the storyline anticlimactic.

I just could not get into this book no matter how hard I tried. I finished it but only after a lengthy struggle. I just kept hoping it would get better. It didn't. The book is now going to sit gathering dust because I am never EVER going to pick it up again.
medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Loveable characters: No
Diverse cast of characters: Yes

A good story, but the narrative was stifling. Ug.

Plot: 1. Hack your way through the forest. 2. Get ambushed by Mohicans. 3. Kill a bunch of Mohicans. 4. Hack your way through more forest. 5. There are those damn Mohicans again. 6. Kill a bunch more Mohicans. 7. start over at #1.

Somebody explain to me how this ever got to be a classic.

The worst thing I've ever read. Put me off reading completely for quite a while.
