Really unnecessary hard N slurs. There are so many creative ways you could show a character being racist. Using slurs is lazy writing used for shock value.

I love the main character, Anita Blake. She has a strong and tough personality.

I am starting to see how the series can go really dark and twisty. Most of this book wasn't based on the case(s) - it was a love triangle.

I gave this book five stars when I was younger. I'm pretty sure I gave every Anita book five stars back then. Actually, come to think of it, I gave every book five stars back then.

This book was my first distaste of the series. I felt it as vividly now as I did back then. I hate Richard. Always have and always will. I used to argue with my best friend about it. Some part of me wants to defend him, but there are many more parts of me that wish he wasn't a character. In truth, I think his only purpose is to make Jean-Claude more likable. I think it was the only way Laurell could bring Anita to date him.

The book introduces us to a wider spectrum of the lycanthrope universe. Their politics are introduced in this book as well but then quickly dismissed. Every turn of the book was rushed. Every part. There is no solid essence to any of it. I'm sure Laurell knew she would write another book after this one but it always pisses me off when readers are left to wonder what the hell happened with all the other things. Even something as simple as killing the stupid swan in one page makes next to no sense.

Laurell is starting to explore other aspects of Anita. I don't know when she starts writing erotically but I feel it is coming soon. All we have is temptation so far and mindless flirting. A man who is the opposite of everything Anita preaches and one that is, literally, a wimp. Don't get me started on the proposal...I hope Laurell regrets writing it as much as Anita regrets accepting it. Stupid. Utter crap and baseless writing. Ugh. It makes me want to give this two stars.

You know what...I will.
Fuck it.
If a series has a book that you can do without then it should have never existed.
