Okay, so this is largely a continuation of book one and I'm not sure that much actually happened plot-wise. There was a lot of character development though, and the spice was hot. I can't say I was super-surprised by the twist at the end though, I've seen it done before and was expecting something along those lines.

Spoiler for basically the last paragraph of the book:
This is the second or third time I've come across a heroine in a dark romance has been literally sold by her father and there existing piles of formal paperwork proving the purchase. The first time I scoffed, because of course it doesn't work like that. Sure, there are shady deals and people are sadly being sold as property all over the world. However, I can't fathom that there would be actual paperwork proving ownership in one of these cases. We don't know yet how MK is going to react to this, but at least one previous heroine viewed the purchase as completely legit. Deeply unfair and a traumatizing betrayal by her father, sure, but still legit. Is the US even more of a dystopian hell-hole than I thought, where parents can explicitly and legally sell their daughters?

That’s better. I wish Archer wasn’t such an absolute asshole, I hope we get some sort of redemption arc in the third book. But this series is quickly becoming a favourite!

I think I loved this one just a *tiny* bit more than I loved Hate. I think it's settled that Steele is my favourite of the three guys. Archer hasn't grown on me fully yet but I have a feeling book 3 might work on that based on that cliffhanger ending. The smut was hot, but I think the plot just needed a tiny bit more added to it because it didn't feel like a lot happened. I think my rating is so high because I love a bit of character development and relationship progression and we definitely got that in this book.

TWs: guns, violence, blood, stalking, smoking, drug use, roofies/spiking, nightmares, death of parent (before book, car accident), death of sister (before book, car accident), gaslighting, bomb explosion, toxic family, alcohol consumption, ref to sex trafficking, ref to homophobia, hospitalisation, stab wounds, murder, claustrophobia

Tropes/Themes: reverse harem, protective possessive men, mention of toys, rival gangs, ufc fighter, taking care, calming during nightmares/panic attacks, threesome

Why is Tate James so good at ending her books with these cliff hangers!!!!
I can’t. I can not.
