This was quite the whirlwind, and history lesson on slashers. I did not really enjoy the essays too much. I didn't get a lot of help from those. Kept me guessing until the end as to the killer ;)
It was def a slow burn and took me a while to get used to the author’s voice + a sense of reading through an unreliable narrator. Totally worth it for the ending though!
Great read! This story grabs you from the beginning and holds your attention and curiosity throughout. The added atmosphere of the protagonist being obsessed with slasher films was a great add, and often added a level of fun to the story.

It took a bit to get going for me (I prefer psychological horror to slashers, mostly!) but I truly never knew what was going to happen next and I wanted to see where Jade ended up. By the last 2 chapters, it had me hooked (pun intended) and I teared up a few timws. I'm starting the sequel as soon as I can !

i'm such a fan of stephen graham jones, he just gets it. once again, i can't wait to read his other books. jade is such a relatable character, with quirks and flaws that made her human. this is a story about wanting to follow the mold, but the mold isn't real, is just a concept, and life will force you down the path you're destined for whether you want it or not. being a final girl isn't assigned to someone, it's forced upon you. jade deserves the world and more!!

Just as I expected, Stephen Graham Jones knocked it out of the park again. Jade is an incredible character, and I'm looking forward to reading the next two books to spend even more time with her. I took off half a star because I got really attached to a side character and never even got to learn his name, and that is an unforgivable sin.
