"There is evil in all of us, and it is the mark of a man how he defies the evil within."

That was such a good book! I think I likes it when more then Legend, actually. Gemmells writing style can definitely be confusing sometimes, but he sure knew how to write a story. Wasn't sure how it was going to end, but I loved it. He really does love killing off 95% of the cast in the last three pages every time though, huh? I do love all the surprise rescues too though, wasn't expecting those.

Also, fuck Karnak.

I have really enjoyed revisiting this book/series. I chose this series as part f my reading challenge for this year, and as a buddy read with one of my colleagues. Even though the first book in the series was released in 1984 (and the latest in 2000) the series has pretty much stood the test of time. It is a fantastic action adventure fantasy- with superb characters and brilliant world building, which brings the whole story/series to life.
I have fond memories of discovering this series and excitedly awaiting each new instalment. My reading buddy hadn’t read the series before, but has also enjoyed discovering David Gemmell’s work/s.

Found the first half of this hard going. Also the woman seemed pretty written.

Start to get a little formulaic when you read these in a row.

Another great piece of historical fiction by Gemmell. The story flows well as you get captured in the journey with Waylander.
Full of action and adventure, there is no room for boredom as you read his stories.
It wasnt quite as good as his Rigante series of books. But still, well worth a 4 star rating.

Wat een heerlijke fantasy. Meer dan 10 jaar geleden heb ik dit boek voor het laatst gelezen, maar het is nog steeds fantastisch!

Imagine Clint Eastwood's eternal gunslinger in fantasy land. I have enjoyed this series so far but this one really blew me away, I was rooting for Waylander's redemtion and couldn't put it down. I wouldn't have been put off if the ending was as simple as I had expected, but it had a few pleasing twists in store too.
