There's something about rage that gets to you, forces you to confront your life and your choices. Sometimes it blinds you, which is an apt description of what happens to the main character in this novel.

Tau is impulsive and single-minded, blinded by rage and the injustices of what has happened to him, too focused on getting revenge to see the bigger picture until it was too late. As such, it made it hard to like him even as I cheered for him.

It's a strange novel. While it's very straightforward, it also has the dubious honour of being one of the few books where I hate almost everyone but love the plot.

So cheers for that?

This book contained an interesting and well imagined world with strong characters but the constant battles and militarism made me feel disconnected from the overarching story. I’m not anxious to continue on to book ll and the fact that books lll and lV are yet to be published doesn’t help.
