I was looking for fantasy books written by persons of color after reading a couple of other series. The book gives a powerful portrayal of the impact of oppression on a person, and the strength that comes about because of their suffering.

It's a slow start that has you wishing it went into other details. Unfortunately the book doesn't get interesting until the end. I think it would benefit from seeing another characters point of view.
