I loved this book. So much. I’ve rarely read a book that’s had me smiling so much the whole way through. God, do I love a slow burn. The banter between Calla and Jonah was top tier. I was in tears towards the end but the ending left me dying to read the next one.
I also loved that it mentioned Canadian (Toronto!) stuff cause it’s stuff I recognize when most books are set in the “Southern 48”.

The only reasons this wasn’t 5 stars is because I thought Calla was a little selfish at times and that annoyed me. A lot of Jonah’s actions toward Calla were unjustified, especially in the beginning when he just assumed she was going to be a pain based on her Instagram pictures. Also, the hiding her makeup on her thing; sure, you can tell her she looks pretty without it but if she likes her makeup, let her wear it.
This book reminded me a bit of Tessa Bailey’s It Happened One Summer but much better imo.

this book made me cry on an airplane.

it was funny, heartbreaking, romantic, and adventurous. quite literally a PERFECT book. I’m so sad to be finished reading it, i wish i could stay with these characters forever. (i’ll DEFINITELY be buying book two after this!)

i don’t know what to say in this review because i don’t want to spoil a single line of the book. it’s THAT good. you just have to read it. i will say though that i love Calla’s heart and her strength, and the relationships she builds with everyone in Alaska. I also was giggling OUT LOUD at the banter between Jonah and Calla, which I almost never do when I’m reading.

Absolutely give this book a shot, you won’t regret it.

liked this book a lot and actually read it in one sitting. After the ups and downs of the emotional rollercoaster between tears of happiness and those of sadness I can say I am in love with the story.

First, two tiny things that bothered me a little. Sometimes the chapters were quite long. For many readers this may not be a problem but it made some scenes in the first half feel very long. The end was somehow more abrupt than I had hoped. It was very emotional but the impact could have been even greater if the ending had been a little less rushed.
Apart from that, I was very satisfied with the content of the ending because you are not left frustrated and heartbroken and you can look forward to the next book.
Another thing I wished to be different was all of the sexual scenes fading to black. I absolutely get that this would’ve also changed the focus more towards the romance which may have made the book less balanced than it is now. The love story was a big part of the plot but just as much was adapting not only to a new country but to a whole new environment of people soon becoming family.

The setting in Alaska is just absolutely beautiful and over time you learn to know and love each of the characters.
Everyone appears to be so open minded and friendly. The people are so understanding, patient and loving you can’t help but fall in love with the little town this book takes place in.

„Life will keep moving and changing, whether we want it to or not, Calla“
I liked Agnes’s and Simon’s inspirational calm influence on Calla. In the opposite Mable, another side character I adore, is a young energetic girl showing Calla unseen sides of her father. All of them supported her and helped her adapt to changes in her life.

I‘d definitely recommend this book for everyone looking for emotional sad but happy book.
This story is about finding oneself and finding love as well as it is about mourning, letting go and forgiving.
