The writing in this book is beautiful. The author takes the time to really delve into her characters. The downside to this was that the book moved painfully slow in some parts and I found myself skipping over a few chapters in the middle and don't really feel like I missed much. However, just when I was ready to put this book down, I was invested enough in the characters to care what happened to them, so I continued reading and am glad I did. The story ended beautifully and had me in tears. A very good book!!!
I am really torn on how to feel about this book. On one hand I looooove the relationship between Collin and the Ocean. The ocean was such an amazingly complex character and I adored her and I wanted to like the romance but it felt so insta-love and while the concept was amazing the execution was lacking. I feel like if the two aspects of this story were put into two separate books, a contemporary and a fantasy I would have adored both of them but together I felt like they just bogged each other down. Overall this was fun ad the audiobook narrator was fantastic but I couldn't fall head over heels in love with anything in this book (except for the ocean because damn. Brilliant)

This book had me HOOKED from the beginning. It was kind of hard at first to tell what time setting the book was in but once it moved onto the next chapter you could tell that it was a more modern day story. I listened to this book and my headphones were glued into my ear until the very end! I made my husband leave the living room because I was so entranced by it. Great book!
I had got slightly annoyed with The Selection series by the same author so I was rather wary about starting this book. However it blew all of my expectations out of the water! It there's one thing this author knows how to write it's a heartbreaking romance. I loved pretty much everything about this book and was practically crying multiple times. (However I am heartless so I didn't cry.) It's a beautiful book that's just right for reading on a rainy day or when you're feeling ill. (Both of these circumstances applied to me.) Loved it! And now want similar books from this author.
