I am obsessed with these characters and their absolutely despicable self indulgence and the path that the society has put them on. I am LOVING the Libby Rhodes growth and corruption of innocence arc and the way that Parisa becomes a bit more relatable but still untouchable. This book was a bit more pseudoscience/ theoretical physics laden, but it was still just SO delicious. This book did have a bit of a slow start, but it took off and landed with a 5 stars from me. I love this series.

Slow to start but once it got going I couldn’t stop. I love reading books that don’t all fit into the same category. For instance this book is written with so much thought (big words that’s aren’t typically in your average weekend read) that make it so much more fun. Can’t wait for the third book.

I really wanted to live this book. The first book left me feeling complicated. Sure it was vague and overly pretentious, but I loved the atmospher and overall feeling the book left me with. It was enough to get me hyped for the sequel. Turns out the sequel was everything that wasn’t working in the original, on steroids. It was painful to read. One big wordy fever dream with no direction. Even the character’s I loved in the first book were ruined for me.  I  couldn’t force myself to finish this, and I can’t see myself finishing the series.

TAP picks up a short time after TA6’s cliffhanger with the cast swearing to solve the mystery…only for most to shortly give up as a lost cause. Our cast of initiates have one more year before they’re full members of the society and this year feels like grad school: some are truly dedicated to learning as much as possible, some are totally lost with no real purpose, and one might toy with the idea of being a deity (ok maybe that last one is less grad school-specific).

New in this book: an entire storyline outside of the house and away from the crew. Probably my favorite of the plot threads.

Pros:
- DARK LIBBY. Your girl is on a mission and I pity the man who tries to trap her again.
- Revenge is a favorite trope of mine.
- Parisa or Libby could step on me and I’d thank them.
- Nico and Gideon are sweet baby angels.

Cons:
- Not enough plot, but that happens frequently with sequels in the middle of a larger series so I’m willing to keep trying.
- Not a lot of character development other than Callum’s total regression into a shadow of himself and Reina’s…whatever she has going on.
- I don’t *really* care about Gideon’s mom and the book really keeps trying to make me care.

First one was better. This is more quotable, but starts a lot slower. First 100 odd pages are a slog which is not really deserved given it is a really good concept and some great characterisation of egotistical humans and master manipulators. I will read the final one.

I feel like I need to reread it even though I just finished it last night. It's like a lot and nothing happened at the same time (the Paradox title feels very fitting). We got a bunch of information but it still feels like we're very near where we started off plot-wise. I can't wait to see how it all unfolds in the final book.
