Another fantastic book from Shalini Boland. As usual the story was fast paced and addictive and I read it quickly. If you have ever read anything by this author you know that you are always in for a twisty adventure with an ending that you won't see coming. The Marriage Betrayal is no exception.
Faye has planned a family summer holiday back to where her husband Jake grew up. Along for the trip is Jakes sister and her family. But all is not as she had imagined and Jake is not enjoying being back home. They plan to head back to London early but before they can Jake and their 6 year old son go missing . The police are called and the town comes out in force to help search for them. As the investigation continues Faye finds out that her husband is not the man she believed that he was.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for my advanced copy of this book to read. All opinions are my own and are in no way biased

"Anyone looking would see two young families having a relaxed evening out. They wouldn't see the discomfort, the anxiety, the resentment. They might even be envious."

It's true I'm a bit biased when it comes to Shalini Boland's work, as I've been a fan ever since I had the chance to read The Girl From The Sea back in 2016. Every time I hear a new psychological thriller is about to come out, I immediately add it to my wishlist even before reading the blurb... Shalini Boland's psychological thrillers have yet to fail me, and The Marriage Betrayal once again confirmed my love for her writing. Why was this another winner for me?
Well, first of all it's the writing that draws you right in, sets the tone and won't let you go until the very end. Every time I pick up a Shalini Boland story, I know I have to clear out my schedule beforehand and make sure nothing will disturb me while I read... Because it's a garantuee I won't be wanting to stop reading before I reach the final page if it can be helped. The Marriage Betrayal turned out to be another one of those reads. While it's true the pace is a tad slow in the beginning, with the first quarter of the story being what seems like a mosty ordinary family vacation in Swanage. There is always a hint of unrest and suspense lying just beneath the surface though; the run down gothic house they rented for the week setting the tone for the atmosphere. Tension is slowly building up as we start getting glimpses of Jake and his sister Lainy's past, with things escalating as Faye realizes that her husband Jake and their son Dylan are missing. Did something happen to them? Is there something more menacing at play? Secrets and lies are hinted at, but not revealed for a long long time; leaving you guessing what happened with Jake and Lainy in the past and what it has to do with the present. And what other secrets are they all hiding?
Like I said before, the building up is a bit slow and fans of faster psychological thrillers might struggle a bit with the first part of The Marriage Betrayal as there is more focus on the characters and mundane daily activities. I can promise you things WILL escalate and this story has quite a few shocking surprises for you lined up. The Marriage Betrayal will try to mislead you multiple times and try to make you look in the wrong direction... And even though I did start to guess some details of what was coming, there is no way to brace yourself for the end that Shalini Boland has for us in store. WHAT A TWIST!! It's not often a psychological thriller manages to surprise me, but this twist left me with my mouth hanging wide open and consequently saying 'NO WAY!' over and over again. And while I thought that The Marriage Betrayal was a solid 4 star read during most of the story, it deserves an extra half start for the explosive ending alone. Fans of the genre will without doubt have a great time reading this story.
Another fantastic book I have read from Shalini Boland.
The Marriage Betrayal is told between alternative timelines and POV’s.As usual the story was fast paced and I read it quickly. If you have ever read anything by this author you know that you are always in for alot of twists with an ending that you won't see coming.

Wow, wow, wow, wow! Shalini Boland is one hell of a story teller. I think I may still be in shock after reading this. I really don’t know how she does it but yet again she has totally knocked my socks off.
What should have been a lovely family holiday turns out to be Faye’s worst nightmare. Her husband and son both disappearing. Luckily for her they went with her sister in law and her family so she has someone to lean on.
The story flicks from present day to the past when Jake and his sister were in their teens. It’s obvious that something has happened in the small seaside town but just what, I had no clue and we are fed bits throughout the main story of the disappearance of Jake and Dylan whilst waiting for this revelation.
Yet again I loved the build up of suspense as to what has happened to Jake and his son. I really felt for Faye and her sister in law and what they were going through. The further into the story we get the more my heart started pounding as I know how the author loves to play with her readers mind and yet again she did not fail me.
The Marriage Betrayal is a gripping story that will send your heart racing. It’s another of her books that I can’t wait for all my friends to read so I can talk to them about it and see if they saw any of the revelations coming, as I certainly didn’t. Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant!
My thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for an advanced readers copy of this book. All opinions are my own and not biased in anyway.

I was in dire need of a good thriller and I decided to try out another thriller by Shalini Boland. Now I will say that this started off pretty slow and I really don’t do well with any kind of slow burning book. However it did pick up about 70% in and essentially did a 180. I did not see the twist coming and it turned out to be a fun read! So again, Shalini Boland did not disappoint!
I have read several books by Shalini Boland and the one thing I can say that connects them all is her plot twist gets me everytime.
She keeps you on the edge of your seat and just when you think you have it all figured out you realize that you were again mistaken no matter how out of the box you think.
The Marriage Betrayal is a fast paced book that will keep your mind moving and guessing all the way until the end!
Another fabulous book by this fabulous author!

Another great read by Shalini Boland, a solid ending with everything wrapped up and no loose ends. 4.5* I'll definitely be reading all her books :)

Imagination is an artist’s blessing but a mother’s curse.
Shalini Boland is a gifted story teller. The first two books, I read by her, were phenomenal and The Marriage Betrayal is yet more amazing. There are many books about missing children who later resurface but no one has the originality , the twists and the perspective of this one. I could not stop reading. The story does not have a dull moment and it left me doubting until the end.
The Marriage Betrayal is an entertaining psychological thriller that features a pile of unique, well developed characters and a current theme that fits with the times. I was definitely interested in knowing what came next and I enjoyed the slow reveal of the information discovered during the investigation and its impact on the various characters.
This is going to be one of those books that lingers in my mind, with me thinking about the characters weeks later. I loved or hated some by different turns yet I emotionally connect to all of them. I was swept up in this story, desperate to know why Dylan and his father had gone and what exactly had happened to them.
Shalini Boland spins a wicked tale and I will be looking for more from her in the future, thank you for a great read.

The Marriage Betrayal kept you guessing throughout and then dropped your jaw to the floor at the end. The ending really threw me.
Oh my word Shalini Boland has done it again and written an absolute cracker of a psychological thriller. I loved everything about this book from the very first page right up to the final page. This is a book full of suspense and you won’t want to put it down once you start it. A massive 5 stars from me.
