Lady meets an Earl is a Historical romance that has forced proximity and lots of tension. The book started off very fast. The plot got to the point pretty quickly; James is down on his luck and broke, and Lucy is the middle child no man wants to marry. They both go to Scotland to be in an estate together (without knowing the other is going to be there) and voila! Romance!

My critique:
It was very slow. I wasn't all that interested in our heroine Lucy. She definitely suffered from middle child syndrome and our hero, James, didn’t stand out to me.

Praises:
it's a decent romance and i find it to be a good rec for readers who want to start reading their first historical romance.

I adored Christy Carlyle's newest release!
If you like the tropes of mistaken identity, rivals, star-crossed lovers and forced proximity, this is for you!
Full review to come on my blog when the HCP strike has been resolved.

If only I could talk about this boooook but alas HarperCollins refuses to engage with their on-strike employees and we hate that! Review to come when the strike ends with a fair bargain.

"I must learn to live with happiness."

Lighthearted and unique, this is a fast read filled with fun.

When you put a dog in a book you immediately have my heart! This book is fun and sweet, but it did drag in parts and the writing could be kind of clunky. This is part of a series but absolutely can be read on its own. I'll definitely look forward to more in this series as well!

Star Rating: 3.75/5
Tropes: Road trip, big family
CW: Abuse, death

ARC review - pub date 11/29/22

This is a light-hearted and low angst historical. I was missing a great deal of tension - the main conflict of James inheriting Lucy’s aunt’s house just didn’t…quite…build enough tension for me. I wanted the characters to have more reasons to interact and be kept apart from one another and/or be forced to work or be together. I needed a heightened sense of drama between Beck and Pembroke. Make that bad guy worse, make the good guy smarter and better.

I kept wanting a big reveal but the characters are super honest with each other so it deflated a lot of the potential conflict and thus I felt less compelled to know how the characters were going to work things out. I hate miscommunication as a trope but these people just come out with everything immediately. Where is the angst? The insecurity? The pining? The awkwardness?

There were a few lovely moments between Lucy and her aunt and Lucy and her brother but the characters in general fell flat for me. I didn’t feel much connection with any of them and I didn’t really understand why James and Lucy were together other than that they were, and they fell *really* fast. Like two days fast. Lucy was ready to risk it all for a man she bumped into on a train platform? I dunno. Not my jam.

Thanks for NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC!

I got this ARC from netgalley this isn’t coming out till November 2022. This book was very good. It follows Lucy a wealthy woman who never got married yet and James who is a Earl who got a letter from a solicitor stating that his uncle gave him a estate. Lucy gets a letter saying to go to Scotland to meet her aunt and she can live her life the way she wants and one of her favorite things is to draw an for people to see her art. Her parents want her to be married but she hasn’t thought of things like that.

So she takes a train car ride to Scotland along the way meeting the Earl James for the first time and they both have a connection even though they will go seperate ways? Things start to get interesting when you find out that through their connections they have some things in common and you find out their slow burn becomes something more. Has a HEA and it’s very good.

I enjoyed Lucy and James together, very good book. Also the cover is super pretty reminds me of a fairytale. ❤️
