As a positive, I like that this isn't a love story. I appreciate reading stories that focus on other types of relationships. That being said, I don't like either of the main characters, but especially the older sister. I can't sympathize with someone who manipulates and lies to her family. Not a fan of the animal death either. I can see where this is going and I don't care about these characters enough to read it. I'm not sure if the book will have the overall message that you should put in your own work and not rely on fairy bargains for everything, but that's definitely what I wish I could tell the characters at this point in the story. I'm frustrated and not having a good time, so it's time to move on.

his book was pretty good all in all! Fairly slow start but about half way through I really started to enjoy my time with this book. I love the themes of magical realism and old familial tradition mixed with the expansion of the world around them.

Spoiler:
Also, damn, I would have been so weak for the huntress with the horns. That first deal would have been it for me šŸ˜‚

This wasnā€™t the read I was expecting. But it was still enjoyable. Iā€™m glad this was a library rental and not a purchase though!

I loved the combination of academic excerpts and first hand experience of fairy lore. In general I enjoyed the world that was created. It was fanciful yet real, a perfect amount of detail in the descriptions, and had a lot of heart.

I was disappointed by the blandness of the end of the story. There was a great, slow build that felt like historical fiction with just a sprinkle of magic for at least the first half. But the end was justā€¦ there. I wanted suspense. I wanted to be absorbed in the
fight to get the daughter back from the fae realm

Overall, a great shell to the story but the plot just didnā€™t quite suffice.

Book: The Fairy Bargains of Prospect Hill
Author: Rowenna Miller
Genre: Historical Fantasy
āļø4

A beautiful tale of two sisters and the lengths they will go for their family. For generations, their family has bargained with faries for small favors until one sister needs help escaping an abusive marriage. Sprinkled with feminism and fae folklore, this book was not only enjoyable but beautifully written. The only issue I had with this book was the slow pace in the beginning.

CW: Domestic abuse (emotional and physical) animal death (chicken and fae creature)

You can't tell me that Jack suddenly doesn't believe his wife's fairy bargain with the scrying glass. It was very out of character and pulled me out of the story.

It was a good book and I think it would make a great film!
