Considering I got this book idea from a 12 yr old who was reading it for school I ABSOLUTELY loved it!!! Very well written and something my own child can read next!
Laurel is a judgement prick.
Faerieboy is creepy.
There's a weird view of beauty here, too. Laurel judges people's appearances constantly (because she never needed braces! Her hair never is greasy! No acne!) and symmetry is linked to evolution...
It literally is stated at one point that the symmetrical faeries tried to take in the asymmetrical trolls, but "when evolution gives up on you, death is inevitable. And it's more than just the physical. The stupider you are--the worse evolution screwed you up--the less symmetrical you are."
Also, faeries are stated to be THE most evolved.

Pretty good for a debut novel from an unknown author. It's a different take on Faeries. Thought i really can't see Miley Cyrus playing Laurel in the Movie version, So i guess i won't be going to the movie.
A new take on fairies that I think will be a big hit with teen girls.

this was recommended to me by a friend, so I really wanted to like this book… but it just didn’t do it for me. I will attribute part of the reason I didn’t like the book to a couple thing that aren’t the book’s fault. 1) being that I’m definitely not the within the age range that this book was intended for, 2) that I listened to the audiobook and although I could tell the writing style sounded a little young, the narrator made the characters sound very whiny which just made me mot love the experience.
I think this book is perfectly fine for younger readers, but I don’t think it has the ability to also appeal to older audiences. of course, it isn’t necessary that a middle-grade book does that, however I think it’s the sign of a good book that it can be enjoyed by all.
there was very little plot, and most of the book was conversations between characters (almost exclusively 2 characters, rarely were there multiple characters in a scene except for a few lines) rather than actual scenes that progressed the plot. the whole first, I don’t know, 70% percent (?) of the book literally nothing happened. and then a whole bunch of things happened at the end, and by then I didn’t care enough about the plot to be invested.
it was also very shallow. I didn’t connect to the characters at all, they didn’t feel like real people, or even have any flaws.
it felt like david just liked laurel cause she was unnaturally pretty. although he was probably my favourite character out of them all, he felt most like an actual person. and tamani oh god. I know he was supposed to be funny and flirtatious, but he just gave me the creeps. I honestly would get behind their storyline if it was written differently, but I hated all their scenes together lmao.
and laurel… gave absolutely nothing. she was just there. until the last few chapters she actually started doing stuff. but honestly she was just an incredibly bland character to read about :/
on a positive note though, I loved the idea that faeries are plants and that they belong to a season which determined their powers. I think that was a really fun and cool and I haven’t seen that in any other fairy inspired books/movies, etc.
again, I think this would be great for younger readers, and I probably would have loved it at 9-11 years old, but unfortunately I just couldn’t get into it.

So, another re-read present day from when I was a teen. I find, in my opinion, that this one holds up. While there is romance, I find it wasn’t too much and oversaturated with it, and the plot was interesting. I also thought the writing was done well. Good overall!
It was sweet and cute and fairy-like and I liked it. Liked, not loved.
Super toll! Wirklich spannend die Entwicklung zur Elfe von Laurel. Ich mag David soooooo gerne!
