I thought this was well written and a different take on fairies than usual. It had interesting characters, but the main character was too wimpy for me. For a fairy, you'd expect her to find some special skill or power that she alone could do, but although an opportunity arose for this to happen, it did not. Unfortunately, she was plagued with Bella Swan's need to be rescued.
I read this book first when I was about 13/14, and I only now realized that I never finished it back then. It always stuck with me for its original premise. Reading it as a 24-year old though meant that for the first couple of chapters, I couldn’t help but feel that the writing was a bit amateurish, the plot predictable, and the characters flat. However!! As the story progressed, I got sucked into the narrative all over again. If that isn’t successful writing, I don’t what is! Is reading this a bit of a guilty pleasure? Absolutely. Am I enjoying these teenagers’ cheesy love triangle and questionable decision-making and ridiculous fascination with blue eyes? Absolutely.
"And do you really think someone's going to look at you and say, 'Hmm, I think that girl's a plant'?"
Wings was much better than I expected, to be honest I have been trying to stay away from this book due to all the negative reviews, also its description didn't really appeal to me. BUT now that I have picked it up I am so mad I didn't do it sooner.
Wings isn't really a complex story, to me it felt like a nice short read that was good..but not amazing. It left me happy, but not DYING for the next one (which I already have). Although this book wasn't amazing, I'm still going to give it a 4 just because It went way past my expectations.
The main things I loved about Wings was the characters, Laurel was so easy to love and was so caring. David, was so understanding and also caring, and Tamani was funny, romantic, snarky....and was well perfect (; Everything about the characters I found myself loving. Another thing I loved was the way fae works...to me it seems a little ridicules still but I still like it? If that makes sense. It was nice reading a fae story that had things work differently then most...I figured wings was gonna lay out the same way all other fae books do but thank goodness it was different (:
I'm not really sure what else to say about this book, I enjoyed it, the romance was cute and fluffy (i love fluffy) and I look forward to picking up the next one, but am in no rush to. So? hmm I'm stumped on what to say.. I hate books that do this to me..OH WELL all in all I liked Wings and found it much better then what everyone had me expecting it to be.

Maybe I should thank this book for actually convincinge me that fairy stories and fairy tale retellings can be awesome!
This story transports you back to your high school days when you felt out of step with the world, however for Laurel she isn't imagining these feelings as she is in fact out of step with the world. She has a secret that not even she knows about. She has always assumed she is a normal human being despite her parents finding her on their doorstep as a toddler.
Its not until the year of her sixteenth birthday she suspects anything is wrong with her. She discovers a lump between her shoulder blades which is at first very small and painless but over the course of the next few days it grows to the size of a soft ball. Suddenly and without warning out bursts wing like petals, almost gossamer thing and beautiful. Laurel is a scion from the fairy realm and she has been placed with her parents to protect the forest and the gate way to her world. She only learns of this upon meeting Tam, a fairy himself who teaches her all about her world.
This story is a light, quick and at times intense read and I highly recommend it for anyone who likes romance, adventure, fairies and magic.

Well....what to say about this book? Okay first off, I found the characters to be very believable and I really connected with the main character, Laurel. For the first 50 to 100 pages or so it was like everything was REAL and I wasn't really reading a book! At first I wasn't sure if I liked feeling like the book was "real" because I never, and I mean NEVER read any books that seem real like that! And even after the real part faded slightly I still "got" everything, like it really made sense. What I mean by that is that everything the characters did made sense to me...there was no "wait WHY did they do that!". It was like I really understood them. Which is weird.....anyways.....so at first I was confused that instead of having wings like how the book implies, Laurel has....hm...I guess this is a spoiler. Well lets just say she has something else and that isn't wings. So....to some it all up it was a good read! I found myself reading it in a little less than a day! I'm a little worried that Laurel will end up going for David instead of Tamani (sorry, not sure how to spell his name) and I DON'T want that to happen! However nice David is Tamani really deserves her! I mean he *mumbles words* oh yeah I can't say anything cause that would be a spoiler. Wait did I already make a spoiler by mentioning David and Tamani? Oops. Well you would have found out anyway when you read the book, and if you don't read it it's not a spoiler!
Wings has been written for tween girls and fans of the Twilight series by Stephanie Meyers. On the positive side, Wings has a creative twist that I thought was very fun. In this world Faeries are the most highly developed form of ....
The faeries have retreated to Avalon protected and sequestered with only a few access gates to the human world. Trolls and humans cannot enter the faerie world. The faerie world has developed based upon a caste system.
On the negative side, there is a remark by Tamani that "Sex is just for fun" that I find inappropriate to suggest to such a young audience.
