A supernatural romance endorsed by Stephenie Meyer, and I can see why. Laurel is starting her sophomore year in high school when she begins to sprout a winglike blossom from the middle of her back. This leads to discoveries about what she really is (a faerie!), as well as forcing her to choose between two guys: David, the boy who's her closest friend, and Tamani, the attractive faerie who's been appointed to guard her. Like Stephenie Meyer, the writing is quite stilted, leading to lackluster action scenes and dialogue.

It might be a classic fantasy triangle love story but I really liked it. It's not for everyone though I believe. Strong love triangle till the third book which I'm currently reading.
The story is about a girl who finds out she's not a human after all but a fairy. More like a plant since she doesn't have blood or a heart. The love triangle is between another fairy (her bodyguard) and a human (school friend). I recommend this to 12+ bcs it's a sweet love story.

290 pages.

I started this book a long time ago, and then 20 pages to finish, i stopped, and i never continued.
And the funny thing is, I kept thinking about the scenes in the book. And then yesterday, i picked it up again, and whizzed through it.

I still agree with the rating i gave it previously. I liked it. Nothing extremley special, but enough to keep me continuting the series.

3 books left. Gonna knock em off my TBR.

I got a lot of thumbs up for this book from friends about this particular book. Also, the fact that Stephanie Meyer gave her opinion on it, made me think what it was that made this book worthy of her opinion...

So. It's about faeries. The storyline is... okay. I like it, yeah. But I felt that it could have been... I don't know... more [lacking in words]. I'm not sure how to feel about Laurel and her guy friends, maybe it's because I've read so many novels with similar relationship problems... And I must say that some Tamani (faery dude) and Laurel (protagonist) bits made me feel... uck.

All in all, I'm not sure whether to love or kinda love this book. I agree with some of you that it does give the whole faery world a new take, yeah. Pike has definitely created a somewhat thorough world about faeries (going as far as reproduction...) But the book has still left me undecided...

I don't know, but I wished that Pike wrote more past the love triangle and developed more about Laurel's family relationships etc. I guess the book gave me an unhealthy overdose of lovey-duvey-ness, to my liking. But then again, that's just my pedantic self speaking...

If you're the type who likes paranormal/mythical/romance YA novels, then by all means, give this novel a try.

I do not usually like fantasy, which is one reason this is not on the very top of my favorite books list. The beginning of the story was very good, wondering what the cause of the bump and petals/wings was. Once everything is revealed, my interest started to die away until it turned into just a normal battle between good and bad.

Great Juvenile Fiction read - I thought at first it would be a Twilight imitation - but it held its own and was really fun to read.

I didn't have any expectations other than a quick and pleasant read. What I found though, was a sweet, quirky book that my daughter and I could enjoy together. I was surprised at the unique take on faerie mythology and found the innocence of the characters refreshing. i would like to read the other books in the series and hopefully my daughter will emjoy them with me.

Unique, entertaining and thrilling. I liked Laurel from the start. I liked the difference between the types of faeries in this book and the one I have read about in other books. I also really liked normal, down-to-earth David and the wild but dreamy Tamani. I was taken by surprise by some of the events in this book but they were pleasant surprises. I will definitely be picking up Spells as soon as I can. If you like faeries, you will definitely like this breath of fresh air.
