Not as great as I expected...
Totally Team David though!

Embora seja um livro para jovens, foi um livro que me manteve sempre curiosa!!! Li-o num instante e quero ler o próximo, sem dúvida..

This adventurous romance novel is full of twist and turns and is JUST DOWN RIGHT AWESOME!!!!! Aprilynne pike is an amazing author and I just can't wait to read the next one!!!!!

I loved the whole idea of it. And the storyline. It would have been nice to get to know Laurel a bit more in the beginning to really like her and sympathize at all.

The whole Laurel and David thing was a bit off/odd. David was a bit too... eager in their relationship, especially in the beginning. They did have a nice connection sort of thing. I think David acted a bit too calm about her blossom.

Then there's the Laurel and Tamani thing. It all seemed kind of shallow and no real feelings at first until the end where Tamani tells her about her life in Avalon before her human life started.

The writing was really bad. It got better towards the end but the beginning and middle was horribly written. It was all tell and no show. There were paragraphs of narration 7-10+ lines long. That's excessive. They needed to be split up and like I said before, Pike should have shown us many things instead of telling us. I think this should have been first person, for sure.

And, as much as I like David, I must say I hope she picks Tamani (I know she will, he's actually her kind and lives in her real home/world. Why mess everything up, Laurel? Pick well!!!)

It definitely has the whole Twilight thing going on but definitely worth reading if you look past the bad writing. I liked it and will be reading Spells as soon as I can but I definitely got annoyed with the writing. Hopefully Pike improved her writing for the next book in the series.

I wasn't sure about this book at first, I just needed something to read. As I read it I really fell in love with it. Such a different approach to the fairy plot line and of course I'm a Sucker for paranormal romance and love triangles :) I enjoyed the characters and didn't find the use of dialogue to "teen-ish" I finished it and immediately downloaded the second book and I cannot wait for the third to be released!

I really wanted to love this book, but it just didn't do it for me.
The idea of this book had great potential, but I just didn't see that it was done justice. There were too many flaws, whether it have to do with the plots or characters.
The plot was quick, getting to the point right away. But a lot of the book, especially in the middle, was boring. A lot of things were happening, but it wasn't interesting enough. There was too much amateurish dialogue and events. Also, the romance in the book just made me mad; things would happen, and then they'd completely stop. It was like the author couldn't make up her mind. Then, there really was no action until almost the very end. Also, a lot of the book was confusing because you didn't know a lot of the background story, until after everything happened, and then it wasn't even needed. So, the plot wasn't very good.
And the characters weren't much better. The main character, Laurel, is definitely one of my least favorite female characters of all time. She was very weak, and too emotional. I felt as though she could never do anything for herself, or that she just couldn't ever make up her mind. She was just very frustrating to read about. Though, David, her school mate, I really enjoyed. He was shy and adorable, but also really caring. He made sure he was always there for Laurel, even risking his life for her. There was also Tamani, who is someone like Laurel, a Faerie. I really liked him; he was brave and fierce. But I hated how he just really cocky one moment, and almost in tears the next.
I actually loved the idea of this Faerie book, for it was much different from any I've ever read. Fairy Tales were redone, and things were more modern. And it could have been so good, but it just wasn't.
I will go one to read the rest of the series, and I really hope they get better.

Was an fairly good book, however I really disliked the love triangle in the book. Normally I don't mind love triangles, but this one really annoyed me. Both David and Tamani swooned over Laurel and she really annoyed me as she was (and still is at the end) SO indesisive about who she like/loved more.

Laurel life isn't normal she was taught at home till High School and she can't eat anything other than fruits and vegetables, but what will happen when a bump appears on her back, what will happen when something impossible happens?

This book is your average young adult book-love triangles, a "special girl" and forgettable characters, if you are looking for a book to pass your time, read it,if you aren't-don't waste your time.

overall rating:3 stars

This story was unique in the way where faeries are plants and blossoms instead of humans with pretty, sparkly wings that allow you to fly. Warning that there is a love triangle trope in here and it’s a bit cheesy, but still has two delectable candidates for our main girl Laurel. It reminds me of one of those middle grade fairy stories. I look forward to reading the other two books of this trilogy.
