This book had so much potential and it just... it makes me sad.

The plot of the book is good. I like the idea of time travel and the mytery behind Lucy and Paul and what happens when they have the blood of the twelve people, it's all interesting and it could have made the a great read. Even the relationship between Gideon and Gwenyth was interesting.

Where things went south was the writing. It was bad. It was all dialogue and monologuing, and barely any description. And the dialogue also wasn't good. They talked really posh and early-twentieth-century. Just because they live in London doesn't mean they talk weird. The narrative was also a bit younger than it should have been.

And what's worse is that I'm not even sure whose fault that is. Was it the author who wanted it that was or was it the translator? This is exactly why I'm not fond of translations.

Overall, this could have been good but because of the writing, and a few plot holes, it didn't work. I don't recommend it.

I was a good start to the trilogy. But I felt like Gwen and Gideon's romance was rushed. Like in the church at the end, they were flirting a little bit and then suddenly he announces his love for her? I like that Lucy and Paul are Gwen's real parents. (I mean, I think they are. Right?) Anyway, overall I liked it and I will be reading the second book.

Started August 2nd, 2013. In German, as that is my first language and the language in which the author wrote the book.
As I have the Blu-ray of the film on order, I wanted to read the book (or maybe the whole series) first.
Not bad, but unexpectedly short.
Took too long till the action started and the female heroine felt younger in the beginning, I would have guessed 14, and was surprised that she was supposed to be 16. At least she made her own decision to fight instead of waiting for the fight to end (but even that she could have done easily being 12 or 14).
So far not bad, 3 stars, hoping the following [b:Saphirblau|6919272|Saphirblau (Edelstein Trilogie, #2)|Kerstin Gier|http://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1327251290s/6919272.jpg|7146989] will be better.

I adored this series when I was little and it’s definetly a little childish. I forgot the first book is so slow I’m excited to get more into their adventures and hopefully the spark will come back. Enjoyable and light to listen to.
