I used to be super into all the Arthur retellings, bit it's been a long while since I read any. This one I'm having a hard time getting interested in, so I'm DNFing it at 30%. I'm just not into it.

This was really fun! It was such an easy world to hide in and I instantly fell in love. I can’t wait for book 2!!

I’m leaning toward a 4.5/5 but we shall stick with this for now because holy god damn this BOOK
Camelot? King Arthur who is literal sunshine? Guinevere who is a protecccctor? And a f/f romance (even if it is on the back burner)??? BUT THE BEST PART???? LANCELOT. Lancelot is my FAVOURITE.
it’s a slow/soft fantasy for sure but I neeeeed the sequels like rn? Pls? Pls pls?? Gah.

Nice take on the Merlin story. I found myself often thinking back to the show to remember what happened but thankfully it didn’t ruin it for me.

I found this book to be such a refreshing take on the cam lot myths. I really found the pacing and storytelling elements to be super strong. I really was so engaged in the story. I also loved the main characters and the side characters that populated this world. I really also like how kiersten took the myths and turned it on its head. This book was such a unexpected suprise. I really also loved the other POV that was included throughout this read. I also enjoyed the ending and really was impressed with it. I feel like that this book just scratched the surface and and super excited to see where this series goes in the future.
mysterious fast-paced

i could read arthurian legends and retellings all day, and this was a nice new twist on them. a guinevere centered story with a refreshing take on the characters. even though i’m familiar with the legend the author still had me falling for mordred’s charm and wit. female lancelot wasn’t something i was expecting but greatly enjoyed, especially the potential queer love story between lancelot and guinevere.

DNF at 70%. basically just a feminist retelling of arthurian legend. somehow found a way to make magic boring, and had characters with the personalities of lukewarm oatmeal. i can’t finish it.
