3.75 ⭐️ (rounded up)
I stayed up way too late to finish this novel because I just had to know what happened. Normally, that would be an automatic solid 4⭐️ rating for me. Unfortunately, and this may be because it is an ARC, the storyline was a bit clunky at times (especially toward the end of the book). Ultimately, I was satisfied with how things played out. If you are a fan of slow burn romance and exploring family dynamics, I would recommend picking this up when it comes out in April.
Thank you NetGalley for providing me with an eARC!

I wanted to really love this book, I'd been reading some of the early reviews and it sounded so promising but it just didn't click with me. I did listen to the audiobook for this, so I'm not sure whether it was the writing itself, or the narration, but everything stilted. The conversations between Wren and Anders just didn't lend to a lot of chemistry, and so I didn't feel a sense of rooting for them. I can see the lessons in love, of different perspectives on life and difficult choices, but it was wrapped up in a story that wasn't super compelling for me unfortunately.

3.5 definitely a slow burn. 2/3 thru was the inflection point and plot twist. Pretty unique story.

Oh don’t mind me, I’m just casually holding back tears at the fact I will have to wait until April 2024 for Paige Toons next release…
