I am so happy I am doing the Outlander Readalong, put on by Jenn from The Book Refuge, because I have finally read this book.

I know this book may not be as beloved because we are dealing a lot more with Brianna and Roger, but I really loved it. Brianna can be super annoying and stubborn with a quick temper, but what else do you expect from Jamie's daughter.

I really enjoyed reading Roger and Brianna in the book more because the actors just don't bring their chemistry or connection to life in the show. It was great to read about their romance and journey back in time.

One of the best things about this book was when Jamie finally gets to meet his daughter. That on it's own made this a 5 star read. Then to be able to watch the birth of his grandchild was so beautiful.

The villain of this book really gave me the creeps and I truly felt he was such a psychopath. His interaction with each of our characters showed how ruthless and cold he is. Obviously, his actions with Brianna were the worst and it broke my heart.

Anyways, I really liked the journey they all go on in this book and discovering their new home in America. I love Frasier's Ridge!

Another amazing book!! I've never looked forward to long work road trips as I do know. Listening to the outlander series is amazing. I love the character development and hope it never ends!

**Spoilers ahead**

I keep waffling over my rating of this book, because on one hand, there were some lovely moments (Brianna at Lallybroch was one of my favorite parts), and I was speed-reading through the last third of the book to find out wtf happens and get some resolution. But on the other hand, there’s a lot of stupidity happening that feels a bit out of character for a lot of these people.

Roger is, I know, a fan favorite, but I’m just not feeling it so much. I don’t hate him, but I do find him frustrating. He’s stubborn and kind of condescending and honestly a bit wishy-washy - I don’t get a lot of consistency from his character. There’s also the ridiculous amount of storming off by both him & Brianna that caused an awful lot of unnecessary trouble.

And the whole part about Jamie & Ian meeting and then beating Roger in the forest was my least favorite part of this entire series. How on earth did that misunderstanding go on between Lizzie & Brianna for so long? Why did Brianna never give them a description of what Roger looked like if they were all trying to look for him? Why did Brianna never divulge that he might also be going by MacKenzie? Why did Jamie not probe Lizzie further when she initially told him about Roger meeting Brianna in the tavern - who else would she have recognized there?? Just dumb.

Overall, I liked the book and am gonna start the next one - but with this one, the series is beginning to lose some of its shimmer for me. 3.75 stars - and that extra 0.25 is strictly for the return of the kilts. Praise the lord.
