Another timeliness book by Frankl

This book seems especially poignant in our current environment of extremist propaganda from all directions, lies replacing purpose, and ideology trumping values. Frank’s refreshing views on purpose build upon another of his key points that there is a space between stimulus and response where our decision-making remains supreme.

Frankl is a hero and a mentor. This book was not easy to read but extremely enlightening.

“And in spite of everything, no human suffering can be compared to anyone else's because it is part of the nature of the suffering that it is the suffering of a particular person, that is his or her own suffering”

“Yes to Life, In Spite of Everything” is a collection of three lectures that revolves around suicide, terminal illness and the author's experience in surviving the Holocaust. This book is definitely a page-turner as it oftentimes, makes you fathom the unfathomable; of how someone who has lived through the animosities and atrocities of the concentration camp is still able to emit an illuminating light of positivity.

Given that, this is my second book from the author, I'm still taken aback by his resilience and strength to rise from his harrowing past. Indeed, Frankl's way of writing teaches you to wholeheartedly acknowledge your suffering; thus deciding whether you want to lead a more meaningful life because of it or succumb to a meaningless one instead.

All which, depends entirely on our conduct. Perhaps, if we take pride in our pain as much as we honour our happiness, we might finally learn to accept that these qualities coexist to bring meaning to life.

Ultimately, Yes to Life, In Spite of Everything is a wholesome and powerful take on life's fidelity to pain and hardships.

I. Love. Viktor Frankl.

I was SO pumped when I saw this new English publication. Every time I read something by him, my outlook on life changes for the better. It is moving AF and inspiring. In this he achieves the goal of “shaking up and keeping alert the consciences of others, as well as our own.”
