I read (listened to) this book as part of a book club. Respectfully, I celebrate the work and research put into it. However, it was very difficult to read. I gained some perspective, for sure. But I had a lot of trouble comprehending.

I feel bad giving this two stars because it has some good facts and it was an interesting perspective that I want to learn more about, but I could not keep my attention on this book.

I honestly can’t believe I finished this book. It is interesting and well researched. Schiffs writing style is just wat too dense for me. I’m glad I read it but woooooof was it hard

Interesting to see how involved he was in the build up and uninvolved in the actual revolution. Which felt like it would be the most exciting part

So interesting!

Excellent biography of the man who, by the end of the book, I came to think of as the American Cato. Like Cato, he was committed to the country and the nation he felt it could become. He was instrumental in bringing about its independence; indeed, as some historians have argued, without Samuel Adams, it is likely that there would be no United States of America. Like Cato, Adams was honest to single-minded in his purpose, a person of great personal integrity, and fierce in his dedication to the cause. And also like Cato, he seemed unable to adapt to the new reality once his cause (union and independence) had been achieved. If you like early American history, this is a must read.
