Enjoyed this slow read. Activates nostalgia for a time/place I have never been, but does not overuse that emotion. It's a relaxing book, imaging the scenery of Faha. The electrification work intrigued, but the middle part took me time to get through. The book picked up again for me when he jumps off a building for a chance to see his crush.  The writing is good, I would consider reading another of William's novels.

I always say that if a book makes me cry, it's a five star read. There are moments in this book where the writing is so gorgeous, it takes your breathe away. Yet not only the wording is breathtaking, so are the ideas put forth. I believe that anyone can read this and find something touching, thought provoking or smile inducing. Like life itself, it will remind you that just being here on this earth and being alive is a gift. Truly, it is happiness. My recommendation? Read it!

A great read! Faha, the fictional village in which the story takes place, feels like an Irish version of Wendell Berry’s Port William. Niall writes with similar wit and wisdom to Berry, too. If you enjoy books that can make you laugh and grow teary-eyed within a single paragraph, you’ll like this one.

By all means, listen to this book on audio - the library or Libro.fm. It's an Irish love of life story best heard by an Irish speaker.
