From my experience watching (not reading) Gone Girl and this book, I'd say this author has a knack for writing disenfranchised characters. Despite the reasoning, they can see the seems of our world but not make sense of them. This is a much more uplifting read than Gone Girl was as a watch

Will keep you interested and questioning until the very end! Characters are both lovable and easy to hate...but they're RELATABLE! Loved it.
Somedays, I just want to read a book that doesn't force me to think much and yet keeps me interested in it throughout. This is the one for that time.
Enjoyed reading it.
Enjoyed reading it.
Felt kinda sick finishing this one. I think my low rating is definitely influenced by reading two Gillian Flynn books back to back, because with the second one I started to notice the tropes and choices she kept falling back on and found myself annoyed with them. The ending was frustrating and a let down, I found the characters in this book to be just straight up unlikable but not even in an interesting or complex way, and their motivations did not feel as well developed and as believable as Gone Girl. Also just the amount of misogyny and victim blaming...I saw it as a character choice in Gone Girl but finding just as much in this story was really annoying, like what does Gillian Flynn have about making her unlikable characters misogynists/having their issues be because of toxic masculinity? It felt cheap to have the same thing repeated here. A lot of her choices in the story felt lazy (the Satanic stuff??) and unbelievable, and this story left me feeling kinda grossed out and annoyed more than entertained.
